    Family Card Game
    Ask students to work in groups of four. Give each group a set of sixteen index cards. They will write the names of family members and draw pictures of them on the cards. Later, they will play a matching game with the completed cards.
    Ask the groups to make up eight sets of matching cards in these combinations: two grandfathers, two grandmothers, two fathers, two mothers, two aunts, two uncles, two sisters, two brothers.
    Then have groups mix up the cards and pass them out face down so that each person gets four cards. Players ask each other for specific cards. The object of the game is to match each card in your hand with a similar card of the opposite sex. For example: brother/sister.
    The first student to get matches for all four cards is the winner.
    Guessing Game
    Ask students to work in groups of four. Each group chooses a leader and creates a pretend family for that person. For example, one person can be the grandfather, another can be the mother, and the last can be the uncle. Call the groups to the front of the room one at a time. Ask the rest of the class to guess which member of the leader's family each person is. They can use questions such as Is she your grandmother? Is he your uncle? The leader gives yes/no answers. Family members can give clues. A grandfather might walk very slowly, a mother might carry a child on her back and so forth.
